This renovation in Mosman, designed by GSBN, showcases the kind of technical expertise and forward planning that defines our work at Heuvel Construction.
Completed within 12 months, the project focused on achieving absolute precision across several complex curved elements, most notably, custom curved sliding doors, curved glass balustrades, and a radial tiled floor in the main living area.
We began by 3D scanning the property and importing that scan into AutoCAD. From there, we were able to accurately draw the tile layout, sliding doors, and balustrade to ensure consistency across all curved features.
The tiles in the radial pattern were waterjet cut directly from these CAD drawings, while the sliding doors and balustrade were ordered from the same digital setout. Even the curved soffit was modelled in AutoCAD, and CNC templates were produced to align it precisely with the soffit, balustrade, doors, and tiled floor.
A key challenge on this project was the delayed delivery of the curved sliding doors, which were coming from overseas. To avoid holding up the program, we proceeded with laying the radial tiles before the doors arrived; a task that demanded complete confidence in the drawings and total precision on site. We used CNC templates to guide the layout on site, ensuring the tiles, soffit, balustrade, and doors would align perfectly once installed.
This project is a testament to meticulous planning, digital precision, and the dedication of our team, where every curve came together exactly as intended.
